FUN DAYS IN SEPTEMBER TO CELEBRATE WITH YOUR FAMILY

Want to make September extra special?

By Macaroni KID August 23, 2023

Welcome, September. It's one of our favorite months: Kids are back in school, fall arrives, and the days are getting cooler. Corn mazes and apple orchards are ready for families to visit, and — in much of the country — leaves are changing to gold and red. And did we mention — it's time for pumpkin spice everything?

Want to make September extra special? Here are some holidays and events your family can celebrate this month:

Labor Day is the day Americans pay tribute to the contributions and achievements of our workers. Plus it's a great day for an end-of-summer BBQ.

Order out or make GRILLED PIZZA  to celebrate!

Sept 11, National Day of Service and Remembrance:

Sept 10, Grandparents Day:

Grandparents are special. If your children's grandparents are local, spend time showing them just how important they truly are to your family.

If they aren't local, plan ahead and send a handmade card and a hug: Simply tape together a few pieces of newspaper or use the white side of wrapping paper and outline your child with their arms outstretched. Let your kids color themselves in. Fold it up, put it in an envelope and send that hug to grandma!

One of our former publishers shared this delicious Arroz con Leche recipe for Hispanic Heritage Month that she learned from her mother and grandmothers while growing up in Tepic, Nayarit. Make it this month as one way to celebrate the histories, cultures, and contributions of those whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America.

Sept 22, American Business Women's Day:

This is a great time to pick up a copy of ParentPreneurs: A Decade of Deals From a Messy Minivan. The just-released book tells the story of how Jamie Ratner created the multimillion company CertifiKID. CertifiKID acquired Macaroni KID during the pandemic, creating one of the largest parent-focused digital media and advertising companies in the country.

Jamie famously says she had no business experience when she started CertifiKID — but that doesn't mean she's not a much-respected American businesswoman now!
