Although some things are beginning to re-open in Atlanta, if your decide to skip the usual Mother's Day Brunch at your favorite restaurant, it can still be a very special day.
1. Pamper her with breakfast in bed. Serve Mom breakfast in bed for Mother's Day. We've got three recipes for you. The Veggie Omelet is fancy and elegant, like breakfast at a fancy restaurant, the Denver Omelet is a bit simpler, and the decadent Croissant Casserole has only 5 ingredients. All three of these can be made the night before and then put into the oven the next morning. No mess in the kitchen to clean up and they taste delicious. That's a win-win in my book!
2. Make a special card that says just what you want it to say. Whether you choose sentimental or funny, make the card suit your mom. The Family Hands Collage is one of our favorites. Make it a card or a larger version in a frame for her to enjoy all year.
3. Call home! In this time of staying at home, it might have been weeks since you last saw your mom or Grandmother. A simple phone call to say I love you and I miss you can be the very best present ever! Even better if you use Skype or Zoom and get the whole family on the call!!
4. Arrange a drive-by celebration. Call your Mom or Grandmother and let her know to come outside, then drive by with signs and balloons. Have siblings or other family that live nearby? Organize a mini-parade!
5. Your Mom reads to you a lot. Why not pick a special book and read it to her instead! Two of my family's favorites are Love You Forever by Robert Munsch and Mama, Do You Love Me? by Barbara M. Joosse and Barbara Lavallee. Johns Creek Books & Gifts has books available for curbside pickup or to order online through bookshop.org/shop/johnscreekbooks.
6. Put together a photo album or scrapbook with favorite photos of Mom with her kids or grandkids. You could also frame a favorite family photo for Mom. We love this Generation Photo because it so easy to DIY!
7. Say it with flowers. There are lots of local florists who would be thrilled to deliver them right to your door or use curbside pickup.
8. Say it with treats! Many local bakeries and chocolate shops also offer curbside pickup or delivery now.
9. Parks are open! Pack a picnic lunch and head to your favorite one. Spend the day outdoors or visit your favorite hiking or biking trail. Just remember to maintain a 6 foot social distance for others! Autrey Mill Nature Preserve in Johns Creek is a great place. Visit the ducks, goats, turtles and other animals, look for wild flowers on the beautiful trails, wade in the creek and more. A wonderful place to spend the day.
10. End her special day with take-out dinner! Call your favorite local restaurants or visit their Facebook pages to find out what alternatives they're offering customers. Duluth, Norcross, Peachtree Corners and Suwanee have made this easy for you by listing what their restaurants and businesses are offering.
