After such a long hiatus, Katie and I were thrilled to be able to attend the live theatre production, Into the Woods, at City Springs Theatre. What a fabulous show to start the 2021-2022 season!
Performed by an exceptionally talented cast, this show is a delightful romp through some of the most beloved fairy tales, but with some very surprising plot twists. The clever sets easily transported us from cottages, into the woods, and then on to the castle. We loved the costumes, especially Milky White, the cow and of course, Cinderella's ball gown! Enchanting an audience filled with children as well as adults, all of the characters were fantastic. We especially liked the costume and wicked voice of the Witch, the beautiful voice of the Baker, the ominous voice and body language of the Wolf, and the bubbly personally of Little Red Riding Hood. Filled with a wonderful musical score, I have found the theme song, "Into the Woods" traipsing through my mind all day!
With a Tony Award-winning book and score, Into the Woods is both enchanting and touching, as it tells
the magical tale of a Baker and his wife, who in their quest to have a child, make a bargain with a
vengeful witch. Their journey into the woods brings them in contact with a host of fairytale characters
including Cinderella, Jack, Rapunzel, a wolf, a giant, and even a handsome prince, or two. Ultimately, the characters are forced to experience the unintended consequences of their actions. One of Broadway
legend Sondheim’s most popular works, Into the Woods is a masterful, musical journey for audiences of
all ages.
We thoroughly enjoyed this show and think your family will also. Thank you to City Springs Theatre Company for hosting us and as always, the opinions expressed are entirely my own.
NOTE: Into the Woods contains some adult themes but is suitable for all ages.
