AURORA DAY CAMP FOR CHILDREN WITH CANCER

By Informational Post March 5, 2022

Aurora Day Camp, for children ages 3 ½ - 16, is the only dedicated full summer day camp in the world for children with cancer and their siblings. Aurora Day Camp brings the simple pleasures of childhood back to children struggling with cancer, changing months of loneliness and isolation into moments filled with sunshine, laughter and happiness. It is a camp designed to meet the emotional, social, recreational and physical needs of these children while allowing them to enjoy the comforts and safety of their own homes at night. Aurora Day Camp offers a free of charge, 6 ½ week camping experience to all children being treated for cancer and their siblings, on a non-sectarian basis.

Though 6 ½ weeks of camp programming is offered, children may register and attend any and every day they feel well enough to do so.

Aurora Day Camp offers a full, multi-week summer activity program plus year-round camp-like programs. These additional programs take place at our campgrounds and other locations that provide exclusive use of their facilities. Additionally, our in-hospital program Aurora On Wheels allows children to experience "camp" in the hospital by providing activities for those who are awaiting treatment.

Aurora Day Camp is located at The Alfred and Adele Davis Academy in Sandy Springs from June 10- July 25. If you or anyone you may know could benefit from our program, we hope that you will pass along the information.

Recognizing the risk that Covid-19 still poses, the Sunrise Association has developed protocols and temporary modifications for summer of 2021 that are designed to minimize any potential transmission at camp.  These guidelines were developed with input from our medical directors, medical consultants, and in conjunction with guidance from the CDC as well as experts in the field of camping.

Registration will be live on March 1st and can be accessed HERE
