Pierce Lights, near downtown Alpharetta, is in a cul-de-sac and showcases more than 50,000 lights animated to music. The holiday lights show entails more than 16 songs - everything from Little Drummer Boy, Joy to the World and God Bless the U.S.A and lasts approximately 16 minutes. It also includes narrated segments by homeowner and holiday lights extraordinaire, Stuart Pierce.
So why exactly did Stuart and his wife Julie decide to start such a holiday lights extravaganza? It all started as a result of fond memories from Stuart's childhood. "Lighting our house was something I always did with my father as a young kid."
As Stuart became an adult those childhood memories led him to always decorate the patio of his apartment. One of his apartment complexes even created an annual decorating contest to get the other residents interested.
When he moved into his Alpharetta house, he had a lot more space and went crazy with the lights. "I actually had to switch to LED lights because I kept blowing the circuit."
Stuart's wife would help him decorate too. "It was Julie who prompted the beginning of the lights being animated to music. Now we feed off each others energy to make it bigger and better every year. We each have the things we do best and collaborate to deliver a song that pleases us both."
On some busy nights, you may even see the Pierces out in the street saying hello to their viewers. "Our hope is that we present a family-friendly show that leaves people feeling better when they drive away than when they came."
