MAMA'S ORANGE SPICED HOT TEA

Delicious and also a great cure for a cold!

By Becky Samford, Publisher Duluth, Norcross, Suwanee, Johns Creek & Peachtree Corners Macaroni Kid February 17, 2020

Seems like everyone I know is sick right now. A few have the flu, but most people just have a really bad cold.  When I was sick with a cold , my Mama always made Orange Spiced Hot Tea to make me feel better. I did the same for my children and they loved it as much as I did.

Not only is this tea delicious, it's also good for you! Tea, cinnamon, and cloves are all antioxidants and honey is a natural antibiotic as well as being anti-inflammatory and antibacterial. Plus, the citrus is chocked full of vitamin C.

1. Boil 6 cups of water.

2. Add:

  • 4 tea bags (I use Bigalow's Constant Comment)
  • 1/2 inch piece of fresh ginger, peeled and sliced thinly
  • 1 whole stick of cinnamon
  • 5 cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon of ground nutmeg
  • Steep for about 15 minutes.

3. Remove tea bags and strain. Add 1 Tablespoon of honey and stir well.

4. Add:

  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • Juice of 3 oranges

5. Serve hot

6. Refrigerate remainder and reheat before serving.

This is my go-to cure for colds along with soaking in a hot tub of Dr. SingHa's Mustard Bath to ease body aches and congestion. It's a heavenly concoction of mustard seed, eucalyptus, rosemary, and wintergreen, to which I add Epsom's salt. You can purchase online from Amazon, HERE.

Between the tea, the mustard bath and maybe some homemade chicken and rice soup, a cold just doesn't stand a chance!
