It's the time for resolutions. For goals and trying to focus on how to change in a small or big way, or maybe something in between. But the new year brings reflection and, this year, I'm reflecting on ways our family can grow in connection with one another and others. Below are some ways that you may want to consider this year with your family. Pick one or all 10, or come up with your own list. Let's get started and make this year amazing!
| 1. Start a Weekly Family Game/Movie NightPut the electronics devices away, pick out a favorite board game or deck of cards, grab the box of LEGOs, or turn on the air hockey table for a night of family fun! |
2. Plan a Monthly Outdoor Family PlaydateChoose from one of our amazing parks and playgrounds in the area, grab a picnic and the soccer ball, and head outside! It's time to remember what it's like to run through a grassy field chasing a ball, feeding the ducks and reconnecting with nature!

| 3. Schedule a Monthly HikeExplore our State Parks with a fun hike through the trees! Walk along the river, or hike up to see a beautiful vista! Not only is it great exercise, but it's a great way to see something new in the area and discover the beauty of Georgia! |
4. Plan Out Your Meals Each WeekYou'll eat healthier, save money and time if you plan out your meals each week. Get the family together and make a list of what's on the menu for the week so you can do one weekly grocery shopping trip and not have to answer the question "What's for dinner?" |

| 5. Read At Least 30 Minutes a DayThis one's not just for the kids! Set an example and spend at least 30 minutes reading. Set a specific time where you stop and read each day, or head to bed 30 minutes early to get lost in a chapter or two! |
6. Use Less PlasticSkip the straws, grab a reusable water bottle, and pack your lunch in reusable containers to cut down on the plastic bottles and bags. Doing a little bit will help cut down on the waste we leave on the Earth.

| 7. Focus on Experiences vs. "Things"Making memories by experiencing new things together is much more valuable than buying more toys and "things." Pause before purchasing something you may not need or really want and replace it with a time you'll never forget. |
8. Change Your Words to Praise and PositivityBeing sarcastic or critical often comes too easily, so make it a point to focus on the good. Look at what a person has done well or right and make that your new focus. Let's try to build each other up, rather than tearing each other down.

| 9. Bring the Kids in the KitchenOne thing makes cooking more fun and that's not doing it alone! Give the kids an assignment to help make one meal a week. It not only gives them valuable experience with cooking, but also is a great way to connect.
10. Find a Cause and VolunteerNo matter your kids' age, you can get involved in a charitable cause to teach and remind each other about thinking about others and having a servant's heart. Whether it's organizing a food or clothing drive, making or delivering meals, visiting a nursing home to hand out cards, or working in the food pantry, there are ways to show you care. |
