REVIEW: THE LEGENDS OF CHIMA (4D MOVIE)

LEGOLAND DISCOVERY CENTER ATLANTA

By Angie Appoo, publisher for Macaroni Kid Snellville & Macaroni Kid Lawrenceville June 15, 2013

My family and I were invited to preview the new 4D movie showing at Legoland Discovery Center Atlanta, "The Legends of CHIMA". It was our first time visiting LDCA, or Phipps Plaza, so we were very excited. As well as we just LOVE 4D movies! Because Phipps Plaza is a Mall - parking was FREE!!! And the movie is inclusive with your admission ticket, so a trip here is easy on the wallet! It's especially easy on your wallet if you pre-order your tickets online, as there is a discount for doing so, as well as checking out any other offers they may have (some are listed below)

LDCA is located on the 3rd floor, and you can't miss it whether you're coming up the escalators or the elevator. B
esides the 4D movie there's lots of "exhibits" to keep your little ones busy. I know from personal experience.

The 4D movie is shown in a very comfortable and spacious movie theater. The movie lasts about 15mins and all eyes will be glued to the screen for the whole duration. "The Legends of CHIMA" has the crisp color and clarity associated with 3D movies, as well as the additional FUN 4D features, like wind and rain! Yes, you do get wet, but it will have the whole audience squealing with delight. Don't worry, it's not so much that any of your electronic devices will get damaged - but to be on the safe side, you should tuck them away. The movie is jam-packed with kid-friendly action and jokes as well, let's just say we're lucky one of the 4D features here wasn't smell-o-vision!!! ;)

The kids loved the movie. Afterwards they got to explore some of the exhibits at LDCA. The girls had as much fun here as the boys! And there were kids of all ages having a good time, from toddlers to teenagers. My friend and fellow MK Publisher, Macaroni Kid Conyers, was there also with her autistic son. He spent almost all of his time playing with the Duplo toys, and he was as content as can be. Granted it was a far less crowded day as this was a media event, but Sundays are less crowded as well if you're thinking of taking your child who may need a calmer or quieter environment.

You should definitely check out LDCA even if your kids are seemingly not into Legos. They will have a great time, not only with the movie, but with the exhibits. And afterwards you can check out all the other great stores at Phipps Plaza!

If you go, and would like to share your experience with us, please feel free to email us at angiea@macaronikid.com - we love kid reviews too! Just check out my daughter's review below:

Kidz Korner: Kids Review: Age 7

Hi, I'm going to tell you about the extremely funny movie, "Legends of Chima". First, this bird has to take these kids on a tour of Chima where they saw a lot of cool things. If you want to know where it is, it's at Legoland at Phipps Plaza. There's one more thing, it's in 4-D. When you're done watching the movie, you and your kids can go to the Legos section and play with them.

Below is a synopsis of the movie: Once a pristine, natural paradise, CHIMA has become a battle ground for eight animal tribes. Best friends are now enemies. The animals fight for control of a natural resource called CHI, a powerful element that is both a source of life and potential destruction. Only a few brave heroes in CHIMA understand the true nature of CHI, and the possible downfall of CHIMA that will result from its misuse. Their stories, and the stories of those who seek to destroy them, are known as... THE LEGENDS OF CHIMA.

For a thousand years, animal tribes have ruled the land of CHIMA. Lions, crocodiles, eagles, wolves, gorillas, ravens, rhinos and bears lived in peace. They played and worked together, cooperated and prospered - until the outbreak of the CHIMA conflicts.

As the first species to drink from the Ancient Pool of CHI, the Lions had become its sworn protector. No one had ever challenged the Lions' custodianship of the Pool because the Lions had always been reliable and fair with the CHI. Animals throughout the land relied on the magical CHI orbs to energize their vehicles, gear, and themselves. The orbs were a power source that the Lions had always shared equally with everyone.

Eventually, some of the animals got greedy. A young, rogue Crocodile prince named Cragger demanded that his tribe should receive a greater share of the powerful CHI orbs. But the Lions insisted, as they had for a thousand years, that giving too much CHI to any one tribe would upset the natural balance of CHIMA. The Lions only wanted to be fair, and to protect all of CHIMA. But the Crocodiles didn’t see it this way. A series of minor skirmishes over the Crocodiles’ share of the CHI led to bigger battles.

When the Crocodile Prince Cragger accused the Lions of getting rid of his parents and he became Crocodile King, full-scale conflict broke out between the Crocodiles and the Lions. As conflict spreads, the fate of CHIMA hangs in the balance…
