"Everyday Hero"

October 1, 2012
Last week while running errands, I started started to make a phone call and realized that my battery was dead. I thought I put my phone in my purse, but when I got home, it wasn't in there! I decided that apparently it fell out of the car when I got out somewhere. I called all of the places that I had been and someone at each location was kind enough to go out in the parking lot to look where I had parked to try and find it, but no luck... my phone was just gone. I knew it wouldn't do any good to call it, because the battery was dead. All of my contacts were in that phone and even though I know that you are supposed to back up that info, I had never done it.

So, I called the phone company and suspended my account and started shopping for a new phone. Oh. did I mention it was an IPhone? The cheapest replacement I could find was still going to be three or four hundred dollars! I was sick!

But guess what! The next night a man named Chris Davis called my home phone and said he found my cell phone! He works at the Duluth Diner where I had eaten lunch. My phone fell out of my purse on the booth where I sat, and since the seat and the phone were both black, I didn't noticed it.

Now a lot of people might have done the wrong thing and removed the SIM card and sold my IPhone. Or they they might have done the easy thing and just left it at the cash register to wait for someone to come back and claim it. But, since I had already called, I would have never known it was there. However, Chris went the extra mile. He charged the battery and looked in the contact list to find HOME and called my number to tell me he had my phone. He was just an ordinary guy who went out of his way to do something nice for a stranger. And that's what makes Chris an "Everyday Hero".

So, THANK YOU, Chris Davis, for being this week's "Everyday Hero". People like you make the world a much nicer place!!

I started thinking that maybe someone has gone out of their way to do something nice for you also. If you know an "Everyday Hero", here's a way great way to say "thank you". Just send your story to me at beckys@macaronikid.com and I'll print it in the newsletter.

By the way, if you have never been to the Duluth Diner, you should try it. It's a true diner, with practically anything you can think of on the menu. Their Greek Salad is fantastic and they have the best Baklava in town! All of the food is terrific, the service is quick and their waitstaff is very friendly. Ask for Chris and leave little extra "macaroni love" in his tip!
