Initially the farm was designed as a place to participate in the Christmas tradition of searching for and cutting down the perfect Christmas tree. During the holiday season they offer live, pre cut or cut your own Christmas trees. Last Christmas, Kinsey Family Farms provided a beautiful 7 foot Fraser Fir Christmas Tree for DNJC Macaroni Kid subscribers to win. See the article and read about the farm HERE. As they grew through the years they developed several additional activities.
During the autumn months the farm bustles with activity as they celebrate the fall harvest. These activities not only include daily educational field trips for local schools, but also hayrides throughout the farm, fish feeding, pumpkins, and a fantastic variety of fall harvest crops to wade through. Be sure to bring your camera and plenty of time to enjoy the cool fall breeze!
As spring arrives and the plants begin to bloom the nursery begins to awaken from its winter slumber. With a bit of help from Mother Nature the azaleas, quince, and spiraea bushes put on quite an initial show! And not to be outdone, these early bloomers are of course followed by dozens of other beautiful plants throughout the spring and summer! Their landscape nursery offers container or B&B trees, shrubs and perennials. If you need color, they can help!!
It's hydrangea season! And the 'Endless Summer' Mopheads, 'Dharuma' Panicles, and 'Snow Queen' Oakleafs are just starting to bloom!!!
Here are some 'Black Scallop' Ajuga and 3 gallon 'Vanilla Strawberry' Hydrangeas, plus they just received some rockin hostas and perennials including Gaura and Achillea!
These three year olds are off to a beautiful start this spring! These are the largest 'The Rising Sun' Eastern Redbuds in the country!
Okay so maybe they aren't grape vines! But if you have people you want to talk to but not necessarily see . . . they can help!
For the kids, they have food available ($2) for feeding the goats and cows in the
petting barn.
Meet Beauty . . . the new 19 inch tall goat with a great story.
"Beauty came to the farm as a gift from one of our "farm friends" who purchased it from his neighbor . . . she was tied to a stake in the yard. And watching this cute little goat walk around on a short tether was all our "farm friend" could stand! He purchased it and insisted Beauty come live with us! And we LOVE her!!! She's actually quite an entertaining little goat. We periodically let her out and she just follows us around like a puppy . . . which is what the little boy in the picture was doing with her . . . well that and mauling her to death with hugs!"
For more information visit the Kinsey Family Farm website HERE.
Right now, they have beautiful Japanese Maple 'Orangeola' trees. These are very attractive weeping Japanese Maple trees. In early spring the leaves of 'Orangeola' emerge in tones of reddish-orange and light green. As the foliage matures, it takes on a deep red color and in summer the older leaves begin to turn green. Fall color is a bright orange red.
