Camp Descriptions

Programming + Robotics + Science  
Entering Grades 2-3

This camp is perfect for young STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) enthusiasits. Campers will learn coding skills through Tynker programming, build & code Lego robots and discover the wonders of science through daily "hands-on" activities. Tynker was awarded the Parents' Choice Gold Award & Children's Technology Review Editor's Choice.

Cost: $299 | Mon - Fri  9am - 12:30pm
Weeks Offered: June 15 - 19, June 20-24, July 27 - 31

Kodu Game Design + Programming  
Entering Grades 3-5

Kodu can be used to teach creativity, problem solving, storytelling, as well as programming while expressing advanced game design ‘concepts’ in a simple, direct, intuitive manner. Since Kodu's introduction in 2009, they have visited the White House, teamed up with great groups like NCWIT and DigiGirlz, inspired academic research and been the subject of a book (Kodu for Kids).

Techie Girlz
Entering Grades 3-5
In our Techie Girlz camp students will learn the fundamentals of game design and computer programming with Scratch.  Intermediate or advanced Scratch students will work on more complex lesson plans to enhance their coding & design skills. Using Bitsbox and or App Inventor we’ll build cool apps that work on phones and tablets. At the end of the week, campers will explore the basics of circuit board engineering with a group Arduino project. WIT Women in Technology is a proud sponsor of our girls classes.

Create Your Own Website & Movie!  
Entering Grades 4-6
Using Weebly, Pixlr and MovieMaker
Create your own professional looking website and Movie using the fun and exciting online program, Weebly along with Pixlr, an online image editing software and Windows MovieMaker.  Students will create a personal website and Movie that can be shared with friends and family.  Your own device such as an iPad or cell phone is recommended but not required for taking pictures and videos.

Minecraft 3D Game Design & 3D Printing
Entering Grades 4-6

Bring your creations to life with our hottest new camp of the summer! Learn to design 3D images to import into your Minecraft world. Kids can work independently or in small groups to create their 3D models.  We’ll provide resources to print your 3D creations at the end of camp.

Minecraft Modding + Programming  
Entering Grades 4-6
During this innovative camp, students learn to code by modding & creating their own mini-games. Imagine creating your own lightning strikes or controlling weather!  You will also learn Redstone modding and block modding functions while earning hundreds of cool badges! Students also receive a one-year access to their own online modding studio & private server for up to 4 friends.

Graphic Design: Photoshop & Illustrator + Programming!
Entering Grades 6-8

Students will learn to use both Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator and understand how they differ. During the first part of the course, students will focus on basic graphic design principles while using Illustrator to explore typography, layout, advertising and logo design. The second part of the course is dedicated to Photoshop where students will learn basic photo manipulation tools and techniques as well as color correction, cropping, filters & adjustments, image layering, and web design. Students will then incorporate their designs into Scratch programming.

Arduino + GameSalad
Entering Grades 6-8 

What is Arduino and what can you do with it?
Arduino is a tool for building electronic models and using code to manage the electronic components. Whether it's sensing temperature and displaying it on an LED or managing devices remotely, the Arduino platform can do almost anything, from a simple flashing light to a box of tricks that sends you a Twitter message when your houseplants get thirsty.  Middle-schoolers will put their knowledge to work creating ‘hands-on’ experiments to create interactive objects that can take input from switches and sensors, and control physical outputs like lights, motors or actuators.

Create games for IOS, Android & HTML5! In addition to Arduino, you'll learn the basics of App/Game creation as well as the fundamentals of user interface design, touch controls, graphics editing, and app/game design.

Mobile Game Design for iPhone & Android
Entering Grades 6-9

Video Production 
Entering Grades 6-9
Learn how to start making your own movies with this intro to video production camp. Students will use  camcorders along with Adobe Premiere, an industry standard editing program, to create a 1 - 2 minute short film they can show to their family and friends. Students will work together in groups, demonstrating how movie making is a team based project.

Ruby Programming
Entering Grades 8-12
Have you ever wondered how the components behind a website function? This course will give you a deeper understanding of how the web works through the programming language Ruby. Ruby, like all back-end languages, is what runs a websites’ internal activity like storing information, security features, and more. Students will use the Ruby language to learn about essential programming concepts as well as object-oriented programming (OOP).
