Here are 8 ways to get your child involved with your health and fitness routine:
1. Enjoy exercises that your child can do as well. If you exercise at home, purchase a mat for your children and encourage them to exercise too. Be sure to encourage them so they understand that it’s OK if their routine looks different from yours. The goal is for your child to move and have fun.
2. If you listen to music, incorporate some of your child’s favorite music into your routine.
3. If you exercise outside, allow your child to go with you on a bike, skate board, electronic car, etc.
4. When you prepare nutritious meals invite your child to assist.
5. Invite another parent and child to exercise with you. When the children get tired, they can enjoy a play date.
6. Look for healthy meal alternatives that you and your child can share.
7. Create your own recipes combining fruit and vegetables with kid treats.
8. Be encouraging! Let your child know how proud you are of their effort and how much you enjoy exercising together.
Good nutrition and exercise should be a way of life for adults and children. It’s much easier to practice a healthy lifestyle when the concept is introduced at an early age. It’s even better when a child observes a healthy parent. Also, discuss your child’s exercise, health, and nutrition with your pediatrician.
