Helping Your Child Discover Hidden Talent

One of the wonders of watching an infant become a toddler and eventually enter the world of a preschooler is to see the joy of discovery through every learning adventure. For children, adventures can be found in daycare, childcare, indoors and outdoors. Through each activity, preschoolers learn new information about themselves and the world around them.

Your goal as a parent is to help your child discover that talent and seek to provide the necessary tools for him to learn and grow in his area of giftedness.

Here are some ideas that may help you discover your child’s hidden talent:

1. Pay attention to what your child enjoys during free time. Try to identify the talents used in the activity that he enjoys.

2. What does your child remember easily? Are there some subjects that capture her attention easier than others? If so, a hidden talent may be the reason for the interest.

3. What talents do you see throughout your family? Many talents are passed down from generation to generation.

4. If your child attends a Learning Academy, are there any subjects that she enjoys more than others?

5. Listen to your child. Ask the question, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” The answer may be playful and funny, but sometimes you can find a talent hidden in a child’s imagination.

As time progresses, talents will likely be more easily recognizable. Be patient as your child makes his own discoveries.
