WIN: A FAMILY 4-PACK TO TRAINS, TRUCKS & TRACTORS!!

Southeastern Railway Museum on August 2 & 3!

July 27, 2014

Looking for something unique to do? Something the whole family will enjoy? Then you want to be at Trains, Trucks & Tractors at the Southeastern Railway Museum on August 2 and 3. This annual festival celebrates the workhorses of transportation past, present and future, in a fair-like atmosphere sure to delight enthusiasts of all ages.

“Trains, Trucks & Tractors has something for everyone,” observed Museum Administrator Randy Pirkle. “In addition to our permanent exhibits, there are antique tractors and trucks, cutting edge hybrids, and this year even an ice cream truck. It’s a chance to see and explore, even climb into the driver’s seat of all these different kinds of vehicles. There isn’t anywhere else that combines hands-on discovery with such a wide range of vehicles.”

The weekend festival includes many exhibits available only during the event, including a mix of modern and antique tractors, trucks ranging from antiques to the current-generation UPS hybrids, and of course the Museum’s signature collection of dozens of historic locomotives and railroad cars.

Family- and kid-centered fun will include temporary caboose tattoos, hayrides, and food, including ice cream. A craft corner will provide kids the chance to create a souvenir to take home. And of course, visitors will also have the opportunity to ride in an antique caboose or passenger car behind an historic locomotive.
And, don't miss a chance to take a turn in the beautifully restored vintage Park Train which has become a visitor favorite since its introduction in  2012.

DATES, PRICES & LOCATION:

  • Trains, Trucks & Tractors will run Saturday, August 2 and Sunday, August 3, from 10 am to 5 pm.
  • Admission to the Southeastern Railway Museum is $8 for adults, $6 for seniors (65+), and $5 for children ages 2-12; younger children enter for FREE. Caboose rides cost an additional $3 per person. Rides on the  restored park train are $2 per person.
  • The Museum is located at 3595 Buford Highway, just north of Pleasant Hill Road and south of downtown Duluth.
  • Insider Tip: Be sure to wear comfortable shoes; the nature of the exhibits means there’s a lot of walking. The Museum recommends that visitors avoid high heels, and suggests that closed-toe shoes are more practical than sandals.

ABOUT SOUTHEASTERN RAILWAY MUSEUM:
The Southeastern Railway Museum, in operation since 1970, is Georgia’s Official Transportation History Museum. Occupying a 35-acre site in Duluth, Georgia, the museum offers exhibits dealing with the history and importance of transportation in the development of the state and the region. The collection includes roughly 90 pieces of railroad rolling stock, including historic locomotives, passenger and freight cars, and maintenance vehicles. The museum also exhibits historic automobiles, firefighting equipment, and buses from MARTA and its predecessors.

Because many of the exhibits are outdoors, the Southeastern Railway Museum varies its operating hours seasonally. Current days and hours, along with educational programming and other information, are available on the museum website at SoutheasternRailwayMuseum.org.
