MK Review: WEEBLES COAST TO COAST

Now at CHILDREN'S MUSEUM OF ATLANTA

One of our favorite places to visit is Imagine It! Children's Museum of Atlanta at 275 Centennial Olympic Park Drive. There's so much to do there with their permanent exhibits, but there is also diversity with their feature exhibits. Their current feature exhibit is "Weebles, Coast to Coast". WEEBLES Coast to Coast will whisk guests away on a 50-state adventure across the country (and even into outer-space), all without ever leaving the Museum.

Loaded with more than 70 hands-on activities (70!!!!!), the exhibit explores the geography, history and uniqueness of the 50 United States.  You don't have to worry about high gas prices, "are we there yets", baggage check-ins, security-checkpoints, or asking for vacation - just grab your camera and go!

One way to get kids interested in Geography is collecting State Quarters, and of course road trips! We have a lot of family in the north (New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania) and I can't wait till we do another Road Trip so that I can point out the states to my daughter. I've always done so, but I think it will definitely resonate with her now.

The states are grouped by regions. Each station has a plaque with the State's name, and some pertinent info to the state and accompanying activity and/or sound. Some stations have games, puzzles, riddles, and other mind-teasers to encourage thinking as well as playing. The majority of the stations ignite one's imagination. This setup appeals to all types of learners;
visual, auditory, reading-writing preference, and kinesthetic or tactile.

During the course of the day, there are a lot of LIVE performances as well, such as story time, a fun dance class (shh! It's exercise), and a skit that encourages exploration and curiosity.

This is my FAVORITE PHOTO, because it shows my daughter, a born new-yorker, with the Statue of Liberty, as well as with the Liberty Bell (we have a soouvenir one at home from our real visit to PA) and her signing the Declaration of Independence!

As mentioned above, there's a lot to do and see with the permanent exhibits a well, such as playing with MOON SAND, PAINTING, DRESS-UP, PLAY KITCHEN, GARDENING, and much, much more!

If you haven't checked out CMA yet, I don't know what you're waiting for! And if you have, you definitley need to go again and check out Weebles, Coast to Coast! It's our favorite exhibit thus far! For more information visit  www.childrensmuseumatlanta.org or call 404.659.KIDS (5437)
