Macaroni Review: Dr. Seuss's The Cat in the Hat

Now playing at the Center for Puppetry Arts through July 28

How many times can I say this, but the Center for Puppetry Arts has outdone itself AGAIN with their new show, Dr. Seuss's The Cat in the Hat, which runs through July 28!

My daughter and I went to see the show this opening weekend and just as we suspected, that Cat with the big red and white striped hat was up to his usual mischief and zany tricks!!

At our house we have the classic children's book about Sally and her brother, their pet Fish, Thing 1 and Thing 2 - and, of course, that famous Cat himself. And, like our other collection of Dr. Seuss books, we've read this story many, many, many times. So I was very happy to see that the show followed the "script" very closely which meant my daughter was familiar with the story.

Not only were the characters all there (including mom whose recognizable red coat and black shoe popped up behind the door at the end) but all of those outrageous, yet clever rhymes that makes The Cat in the Hat one of the most beloved Dr. Seuss stories.

If you've seen the Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer show at the Center for Puppetry Arts, you'll understand what I mean by the show itself feeling like someone tucked you into bed and was reading the book to you at bedtime.

There was one part of the show though which was a TOTAL surprise and I'm sure brought smiles to the faces of everyone sitting in the audience - BUBBLES!! Yes, at one point, bubbles started floating down into the theater and I think just about every child jumped up to touch them! It was one of my favorite parts!

Kids, this is such a cute and very funny show, so make sure you bring mom and dad so they don't miss this one!

And don't forget any visit to a Center for Puppetry Arts show could not be complete without doing the "Create-A-Puppet" craft which is included with your show ticket. Kids will get to make this Cat in the Hat shadow puppet!

As I end this review, let me wrap up like this:

Go look for yourself if you too love the cat.

And don't forget to bring your red and white striped hat!

Of course things will go "BUMP" and some things may make you "JUMP"

But oh how we enjoyed this show;
Oh yes, this I know!

The bubbles, the fish, Thing 1 and Thing 2

My daughter and I just loved it, and so will you!
