See Georgia Shakespeare's Metamorphoses

Transforming this summer with a classic!

June 22, 2013
Georgia Shakespeare’s production of Metamorphoses is its latest in a line of classic shows designed for a contemporary audience. The pool is back! As with the 2006 production, this show takes place around a gorgeous 3,000 gallon pool of water, providing a unique visual experience which heightens the emotional impact.

Artistic Director Richard Garner recalls a story from a patron of the 2006 production, saying, “The performance left her awe-struck, it was unlike anything she had ever seen before. Following the show, she sat in her seat for nearly a half hour reflecting on what she had just witnessed. Georgia Shakespeare uses stories like this as the inspiration to create theatre that has the power to touch lives. We have a responsibility to our community to provide a theatrical experience that has a profound impact on people – and Metamorphoses is just that.”

Written by Mary Zimmerman and directed by Richard Garner, Metamorphoses explores themes of greed, ambition, and love. The 2006 production was nominated for, and won, more Suzi Awards than any other non-musical production in the history of the Suzi’s.

The characters in this play, adapted from Ovid’s original narrative poem, grapple with experiences that at first seem outlandish but upon closer examination are very much like ours. The ten deceptively simple stories in this lyrical play reveal what it means to be human, and in love. An elderly couple questions whether the end of life means the end of love. A greedy father finds he’s gotten more than he wanted when everything he touched turns to gold. A son tries to emulate his father and nearly destroys the Earth. A fearful wife learns the power of love.

Come experience the universal themes and dynamic visuals in this transformative show!
