June 19- July 21 Georgia Shakespeare presents Metamorphoses:
Metamorphoses explores themes of forbidden love, unbridled greed, and thwarted ambition. An elderly couple questions whether the end of life means the end of love. A greedy father finds he’s gotten more than he wanted when everything he touched turns to gold. A son tries to emulate his father and nearly destroys the Earth. A fearful wife learns the transformative power of love. The characters in this play, adapted from Ovid’s original narrative poem, grapple with experiences that at first seem outlandish but upon closer examination are very much like ours. The ten deceptively simple stories in this lyrical play – which takes place around a gorgeous pool of water – reveal what it means to be human, and in love.

June 29 at 7PM: Norcross: “Jazz in the Alley” - FREE 2 hour Concert
The soul-satisfying sounds of saxophonist and national recording artist Eric Thomas are coming to Historic Norcross for the city’s first “Jazz in the Alley” event. Staged in Norcross’ recently renovated Skin Alley, visitors are invited to bring chairs and set-up along the alleyway that backs the downtown's 100+ year old retail strip, where several blacksmith shops were located, in the early 1900's. Coolers are welcome, with dinners-to-go offered by local restaurants. At 7pm, Thomas and his band “Elevate the Quest” take the stage for a free, 2-hour concert.

Having performed nationally, with his singles aired on jazz stations as far away as the UK, Thomas is quickly becoming one of the most sought-after musicians in the South. He approaches the art of Jazz by fusing it with other genre and elements of music, exploration of various time signatures, and unique textures of sound. His sound is described as having a “touch of Hip Hop draped with a dash of Soul” and in every city he has played, has left the crowd with only one question, “When is he coming back?”

The host of 91.9FM WCLK’s Midday Jazz Swing show, Nicole “The Voyce” Sweeney will be on hand to emcee the evening. Sweeney is known for her sultry voice and enthusiastic approach to helping people enjoy the jazz genre.

Skin Alley is located behind the main street storefronts that line South Peachtree Street in Norcross. Park anywhere in the downtown area and the venue is an easy walk – alley access is from the adjacent Jones Street. There will be some tables and chairs available on a first-come-first-serve basis; however, concert-goers are encouraged to bring their own chairs and set up for the evening along Skin Alley.

For more information about Norcross’ Jazz in the Alley concert, including a list of restaurants providing to-go picnics for the evening, please visit www.aplacetoimagine.com. # # #
