Atlanta Opera presents Don Giovanni

April 22, 2012
It was my pleasure to be the guest of the Atlanta Opera last night for the preview show of Don Giovanni.  Widely regarded as the greatest opera ever composed, Don Giovanni is a brilliant combination of comedy and tragedy, telling of the devious schemes and hijinks of history’s most beguiling scoundrel, Don Juan.

I found the opera to be delightful. The plot was entertaining and easy to follow with equal parts drama and comedy. Don Giovanni certainly lives up to his reputation as a Lothario, but his servant, Leporello offers enough comic relief to be the perfect counterpoint to Giovanni's darker character. The music, by Mozart, was wonderful and featured truly beautiful arias by several of the cast. The costumes and sets were gorgeous. I really loved this opera and would definitely encourage you to see it.

The Atlanta Opera closes its 2011-2012 season with Mozart’s masterpiece Don Giovanni on April 28, May 1, 4 and 6, 2012 at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre. More information on Don Giovanni can be found at atlantaopera.org.  Tickets start at $21.70, click HERE to purchase.
