Homemade Valentines

February 5, 2012

Nothing says "you are special to me" like a homemade Valentine!  There are so many wonderful ideas out there, why be one of those people standing in the Valentine aisle at the grocery store picking through the left over boxes of valentines.  Here are some of my favorites.  All of them can be made with construction paper, markers, scotch tape (or glue), sandwich bags and of course candy.

Rocket Valentine
A package of Rolos and a Hershey Kiss and few pieces of construction paper and tape make this cute Valentine.

Starburst Valentine
Starbursts, construction paper, tape and a sandwich bag is all you need to make this sweet treat.

Glow Stick Valentine
A glow stick (or glow bracelet) which you can find 5-10 for $1 at the Dollar Tree and construction paper and tape is all you need for these glowing valentines.

Popcorn Valentine
A bag of microwave popcorn, a piece of construction paper and a cut up popcorn box (my grocery store sells ten for two dollars) make a yummy valentine.

Swedish Fish Valentine
Swedish or Gummy Fish, construction paper, tape and a sandwich bag make this swimmingly fun valentine.

Gumball Valentine
Gumballs, construction paper, tape and a sandwich bag make this chewy treat.

Lollipop Valentine
A sucker of any kind, construction paper and one piece of tape (to secure the sucker from behind) make this sticky treat a crowd favorite.

I'm a Sucker for a Valentine like You!

I love all holidays!  I love the parties, the candy, the fun in the atmosphere that surrounds most holiday dates.  Valentine's is a favorite of mine, especially now that I have a child of my own.  I really enjoy making special cupcakes and putting together goody bags for the kids in her class.  AND I really love making Valentine's Day cards.  Here's a fun little project you can do with your child to build memories and get that Awww factor when he or she delivers them.   Supplies Needed:

  • Camera
  • Suckers
  • Cute Child
  • Exacto Knife
Step 1: Have your cute child stand with their arm extended out to the side and hand making a light fist (like they were handing you a flower), take several pictures so ensure you get one you can use.   Step 2: Upload your picture to your computer and edit the picture to say "I'm Just A Sucker For A Valentine Like You"  Love... Your Child's Name

Don't Worry, if you don't have a photo editing program you can upload your picture to Shutterfly, Walmart or any other photo service site and edit it there, then you can have them print them up for you.

Step 3: Print your photos and cut a slit with an exacto knife at the top of the child's hand and at the bottom of the hand. ON THE PICTURE, NOT ON THE CHILD :)   Step 4: Slide your sucker into where the slits are and tape on the back to hold the sucker in place.

Have fun handing out these special Valentine's this year and making a fun memory with your little cupid!

These Valentine Suckers would be precious to use on these cards:

What do you do with left over candy canes ?  Make Valentines Day Suckers of course !

  •  Candy Canes
  • Lollipop Sticks you can get at Michaels or Joanns in the Baking section
  • Baking pan

Heat your oven to 250 degrees and cook for 6 – 8 min depending on the candy cane some melt a little faster than others.   I just did one first so I know how long it would take for the rest.   Then after they have cooked for 6 – 8 min you just press the ends that are not connected together and push the stick in and let it cool for 10 min and it should be hard enough and be stuck together.    Kind of a yummy and cute way to get rid of the candy canes.    Put a small cello bag on with a cute ribbon tied around the bottom and it makes a cute little gift.
