Sugarloaf Ballet Gives a Christmas Present to the Whole Community!

Your Family is invited to a FREE Performance of their Inspiring Nativity Ballet

December 4, 2016
Sugarloaf Ballet is excited to kick off the holiday season with their 11th annual production of Nativity Ballet. On Thursday, December 8th at 7:30PM , Sugarloaf Ballet will share the birth of Christ through movement at the Infinite Energy Performing Arts Center in Duluth, GA. This performance is FREE and open to the public as part of Sugarloaf Ballet’s secondary mission to enrich the Sugarloaf and surrounding metropolitan Atlanta communities through the instruction and performance of ballet and other dance genres.

Audiences are taken on the journey from the angel's foreshadowing of Jesus' birth through the jubilee of his arrival. In addition to beautiful costumes, the set includes a manger protecting the swaddling infant and animals overlooking the arrival of visiting angels and traveling wise men.

Q & A with Sugarloaf Ballet Director, Lori Zamzow-Wire:

How did the production originally come into being... what inspired it?
Nativity Ballet started in 2006 with Mary, Joseph, and a few angels during Sugarloaf Ballet’s The Little Match Girl production. The fifteen-minute excerpt allowed Lori Zamzow-Wire to share her Christian faith with the audience in a unique way. The inspiration for Nativity Ballet came to Lori through her childhood experiences and watching companies such as Ballet Magnificat! and Ad Deum Dance Company. “I’ve been blessed to dance in Christmas musicals for every church my family attended since the age of 10. I grew up in dance ministry,” says Lori Zamzow-Wire.

Where will with production be held this year?
We are very excited to be at the Infinite Energy Performing Arts Center again this year. Last year was our first year in this venue and besides it being a wonderful facility for our dancers, it allows us to share the Nativity Ballet with an audience of nearly 700 people.

What are some of the other 70 dancers doing?
Aside from the expected choruses of angels, the other dancers will dance roles that recount Mary’s first visitation with the messenger angel and tell of the three kings’ visit after Jesus’ birth. Other dances include a Silent Night group piece and children sharing their love for dance in Away in a Manager.

What will audiences take away from the performance?
Nativity Ballet is an uplifting celebration of the birth of Christ. Audiences will share in the truth of the season and be inspired to spread the Good News of Jesus’ birth. Nativity Ballet culminates with all of the dancers in an energetic demonstration that is sure to leave audience members excited about the real reason for the season.

I might be missing it, but are there tickets and if so, how much are they?
Nativity Ballet is a gift to the community. Because of a generous gift from one of our supporters in the community Sugarloaf Ballet is able to make these performances free and open to the public. Zamzow-Wire says, “This production is our way of giving back to the community. We want everyone to have the opportunity to experience the joy of Christmas.”
