REVIEW: Kidz Bop “Life of the Party” Tour

Parents look forward to celebrating so many of their children’s exciting milestones: first steps, first words, and the first day of school. Another wonderful milestone Atlanta-area families got to experience was their child’s first concert. The Kidz Bop kids stopped in town to celebrate their 15th anniversary on Friday, August 19 during their 2016 “Life of the Party” tour.

Amidst a sea of glow wands, light up sticks, and cell phone flashlights, the popular group among the tween and younger set spent two hours entertaining parents, grandparents and kids alike with a mash-up of many of today’s hottest songs.

Some of those songs included “Uptown Funk”, “Sorry”, “One Call Away”, “Stitches”, “Shut Up and Dance”, “Just Like Fire”, “Cake by the Ocean” and “No” – all sung in the family-friendly lyrics they’re known for.

There was even a fun moment when several dads in the audience were invited onstage for a dance-off to “Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae). Of course, even as one dad was ultimately crowned the winner by the loudest cheers from the crowd, all of the kids (and adults) in the audience seemed to be having more fun dancing to the song than actually judging the contest.
While experiencing a Kidz Bop concert you quickly realize that this is not just your run of the mill local karaoke event. These four kids - Ashlynn Chong, Sela Hack, Matt Martinez and Grant Knoche - can actually sing and dance just as well as many of the musical artists they’ve parodied in all of their pop series of albums. The best part about the concert is that parents can feel safe knowing their kids can happily sing along to pop and hip-hop songs without fear of hearing any suggestive language.

The music kept both kids and adults on their feet dancing and singing all evening long. The show is lively and entertaining and does what it’s designed to do for this targeted younger set of first-time concert-goers: get them tired enough to fall asleep as soon as they get in the car.
