VARAGESALE: VIRTUAL GARAGE SALE APP

Shop, Sell and Save!!

By Becky Samford, Duluth, Norcross, Johns Creek & Peachtree Corners Macaroni Kid Publisher October 4, 2015
My mother-in-law passed away recently and we were suddenly faced with the task of clearing her house of fifty years of accumulated "stuff". After all of the relatives chose items they wanted, we were still faced with many things that were just too nice to donate. Although we didn't like the 35% fee that most estate sale managers charge and we were very uncomfortable with people realizing that the house was unoccupied by an estate sale, we didn't know what else to do.

Then a friend told me about Varagesale, a virtual garage sale online! What a fantastic solution! There would be no crowds walking through the house and it's free... we keep 100% of the sale price!

While most families are not faced with getting rid of a whole houseful of items, too many toys, outgrown clothes and too much clutter are real problems in most homes. VarageSale is the perfect place to get rid of all of those things plus make a little money also!

But, VarageSale is not only a great place to sell items, it's also a fantastic place to shop! Clothing and toys, among other things, are available for a fraction of the retail price. Shop for Halloween costumes and winter clothes right now, without the hassle of going to the mall. At last, you can do your Christmas shopping without fighting the crowds.... heck, with VarageSale, you can even shop in your pj's!

VARAGESALE IS NOW AVAILABLE IN GEORGIA!
VarageSale has just launched 10 new communities in Georgia and now covers both the Atlanta and Savannah areas.  To mark the Georgia launch, VarageSale surveyed 500 Georgia parents and found some interesting data about their shopping and spending habits.  Here's what the survey found:
  • Most parents have no problem buying secondhand items to save money.
  • Their kids can’t tell the difference between old and new toys anyway.
  • 62% believe their children can’t tell the difference between secondhand toys and new ones
•Spending and clutter are hurting parents’ love lives.
  • Clutter kills the mood. 77% think household clutter kills the mood more than a lack of sleep.
  • Money spent on toys causes fights. 26% have had disagreements over how much money they’re spending on their kids’ toys.
•Parents are ‘toying’ with their kids.
  • Most toys don’t get played with. On average, Georgia kids from kindergarten to 8th grade only play with 36% of their toys on a regular basis.
  • •So parents are secretly regifting them. More than half (53%) of Georgia parents have re-gifted one of their children’s toys.
SO HOW DOES IT WORK?
VarageSale is free and easy to use:
  • First, users should download the VarageSale app for iPhone or Android or visit www.varagesale.com
  • Users sign up for free with Facebook Connect and ask to join the community closest to them. (FB Connect allows us to know that you are a real person and to populate your VarageSale profile with your real name and photo to ensure our communities remain trusted and friendly)
  • A community admin will review their request and accept them usually that same day.
  • Once accepted, users can buy or sell items and communicate with other members.
  • To buy an item, you can comment on it and send a private message to the seller to work out the details such as when and where to meet.
  • To sell an item, you can take a photo with the app, write a description of the item, choose a category, set a price and post all generally in less than 30 seconds.

With VarageSale you can shop, sell and save... anytime and all in one place!
