Using the OLLO Inventor system from Robotics, Inc., you’ll learn about the programming of microcontrollers and interfacing of sensors (sound, near-infrared light and touch), the actuation of servo motors and LEDs, and also about wireless (ZigBee) computer communications and control concepts. Through a series of projects, you’ll also be introduced to selected robotics design concepts such as mechanical components (plates, brackets, linkages, fasteners, cables and pulleys), mechanical gear-reduction system for electric motors, and conversion of rotational circular motion to a “walking”, “hopping” or “crawling” motion using 4-bar linkages.
Open to students ages 11-14. July 16-20; 8:30am-3:30pm.
UGA SUMMER ACADEMY FASHION DESIGN SCHOOL:
Learn what it takes to become a fashion designer! You'll discover the basic elements of fashion sketching, illustration, construction, collection development, bead work and fabric selection. We'll examine work by famous designers, from Coco Chanel to Marc Jacobs, and dive into the exciting world of fashion shows by learning the steps a designer goes through before, during and after Fashion Week. We'll even take a field trip to a design studio in Atlanta, where you'll meet designers and see them in action! Students will leave the program with a sketchbook full of designs and inspiration, their own set of design tools, and a final 2D or 3D project. No sewing is done in this course. Open to students ages 13-17. July 9-13; 8:30am-3:30pm
